What is T-REX?
Technology Readiness Experimentation (T-REX) events accelerate the development, evaluation, and delivery of emerging capabilities directly to the warfighter. Through rigorous operational experimentation, T‑REX supports SECDEF’s strategic direction of increasing warfighter lethality while rapidly fielding emerging technologies. The purpose of T-REX is to conduct U.S. and ally/partner experimentation and assessments to build a Body of Evidence that supports Senior Leader acquisition decisions to accelerate the transition of warfighting capabilities. T-REX provides an operationally relevant environment that allows technology to be properly assessed within Technology Readiness Levels (TRL) 4-6 as a proponent in a Tier 1 Activity before a Tier 2 Joint Rapid Experimentation System of Systems validation.
T‑REX has executed five successful events in the last two years, showcasing over 250 emerging technologies including resilient communications, autonomous systems, and counter-unmanned aerial systems (UAS) capabilities. These events have been hosted at Camp Atterbury and Muscatatuck Training Center in Indiana. In the next year, the T‑REX program will continue to emphasize UAS offensive & defensive swarming enabling capabilities, low-cost counter-UAS technologies, and the maturation of low-cost uncrewed systems, aligned with near-term operational priorities.
